Technology....random thoughts

I ADORE, A.D.O.R.E., scream it from the mountains adore.....technology.  Yet, I can hate it with a passion that makes someone talking to me about it at the time cringe. 

But.....learning and education at our fingertips constantly?  Ability to share with my family, all four siblings at once via a medium called FaceBook?  Pinterest....perfect way for this visual creature to sort and find things....Google Reader to keep track of blogs I like to read.  What can I say?  BRING IT ON!  Way too easy to get distracted, side tracked, lost in another line of thought than what brought me in but oh well.....love the roads traveled to get to where I'm going.

This is a picture of my desk this morning.  Yes, my mug of 641.3373 (that is coffee for you non-bibliophiles), my bowl with my apple core and packet of organic plain grain cereal, stacks of items for cataloging from scratch (shivers at the thought) and my library link and my link of pure selfish interest.....clean eating.  Need to stay mega healthy now that I've lost all the weight.

OK, my personal favorite thing about technology?  Well, seems to be panning out to be my favorite although I went through a love/hate with it for a while....online dating.  Only reason it's in the favorable column at this time is yes, there is someone special and yes, we've made a decision to pursue a LTR.  That's Long Term Relationship for those of you not into text-speak.  If you had talked to me on a day when things weren't going so well, yea, hate online dating.  But at this age in my life, where am I going to meet men?  Men who aren't looking for a "newer model"?

Getting out and about.....

Last Sunday I went to Cirque du Soleil....which I've been going to for what....23 years now?  Waaaay back when, the big wigs stayed at the hotel I worked in when they came to San Jose and I coordinated their stay, so they handed me tickets to Cirque.....my mind thought....weird French-Canadian circus with no animals.  PASS!  Well thankfully I decided to take a friend and check it out.  Sunday I saw the 20th anniversary show of Saltimbanco and I saw it the first time around....yes, 20 years ago.  Scary huh?

Tonight I saw Trans Siberian Orchestra, my second time seeing them.  It was their debut of THE LOST CHRISTMAS.  The show was amazing.  Most incredible light show I've ever seen, check this out below.

 

The music phenomenal and they played my favorite, Wizards of Winter.  We had the best seats, very near us were the platforms that raise into the air with musicians on them, shoot fire....and probably other things I forgot!  Second time two musicians went up on the platforms they stood right in front of us about four feet, looking us in the eye.  Was incredible.  I will never miss their shows!

 

We are incredbily lucky to have Cedar Park Center so close.  My dream is that they put together series tickets....giving you seats at a number of different events.  Just looking for them to continue pulling in new shows.  Close, easy parking, what more can you ask for if the shows arrive?

Domain? Or not to domain?

Pondering, pondering.  I've been tossing about the idea of buying a domain name and then making personal email accounts.  Should I????  I use wordpress.org for work websites and have gotten pretty good with it.  There are some pretty cool plug ins that I can't use on my wordpress.com blog.  BUT....is it worth paying for?  Should I just stay with the constantly available from anywhere free gmail or live account and forsake any personalized email?  If I decide to let my website go, then I'm out my personalized email.  All these things run through my head constantly.

As I put them on paper, I'm not thinking, just STOP!  Stick with the freebies.  I love tech but I'm not the big tech guru as evidenced by my blog that doesn't get updated as much as it should.  I would love to keep a better record of what runs through my head.  Possibly in the future a domain name.  But for now I need to just create my landing page that has links to my daily places to visit.....found symbaloo recently and may use that. 

 .....sigh.....more decisions.  Gotta love ever changing tech!

These are a few of my favorite things.....

Sitting at my desk today, the window is just to my left offering me a glimpse of grey sky and wet.  The air has been much cooler here in Texas lately, something that I have enjoyed immensely.  Looking back toward the scene I'd been part of, I saw it with fresh eyes.  My desk is a very good reflection of what I enjoy most.  So.....rummage around and find my iPhone in this clutter, slip it out from beneath a book and *click* a photo, a little snapshot of my life.  The result is above.

Highlighters to emphasize things I find in my reading that I love and want to remember or refer back to.  Source of caffeine.  Lotions.....fragrant lotion.  Post it notes, again to refer back to things and make notes about what really hit me about something I read, or simply to be a bookmark, placing the edge exactly where I left off.  Electronics, specifically a computer with a headset (way to the left) for talking to friends all around the world......my iPhone which was actually in my hands but prior had been just under the front cover of the book.  Rolodex, representative of my friends and contacts, which are now mainly in my phone.....but also representing all those wondrous places on the internet that I frequent and all those passwords and variations of that you need to remember.  One number, multiple numbers, numbers and an uppercase letter, add a symbol.  Finally…BOOKS!  Ideas far and wide, accepted or controversial, opening doors and imagination.  No one can take what you put inside your head and books are one of my favorite methods of transport.  This one happens to be The Arrival by Shaun Tan.  You should go find it at your local library and enjoy.
