Better
So how does that happen? That someone brings out the better things in you? Or do they really? Are the better things there just aching to get out and you just can't be yourself except with the right person/people?
Happiness, contentment. Haven't known these in years and have been bitter in the past. That is gone and I finally got to the point that I was ready for someone in my life. Because with the RIGHT person, I'm better. I'm not good alone. Wrong person? Bitch extraordinaire! Right person? Calm, relaxed, happy.
Way back about a year ago January, I figured I was ready to be involved with someone. I wanted someone in my life. I tried match.com and eventually okcupid.com. Yea, the online dating meat market. But where the heck is someone my age going to meet people when you live in the middle of redneck country Texas?
So yea, online dating. WOW. Men were still like 15 year old boys, or at least the ones I was running into. About April I was more convinced than ever I was ready for someone. I bought a frame that says "live, love, laugh" on it with spots for three pictures. I was convinced that this would be my magnet and that I would be filling these picture slots up before too long. I wanted that.
Come December, almost a year exactly from when I thought I was ready to meet someone, I saw a profile highlighted in the recent activity section of okcupid.com. I liked the snippet I saw, opened the profile, probably went back to it three times and every time kept trying to give myself the nerve to message the guy. I finally did, even though he lived in San Antonio. But dang, his profile was awesome and I REALLY REALLY liked what I read and told him so and asked if it was worth chatting even with the distance. For me it was worth the distance if he was as awesome as his profile was telling me. He read my profile and responded like I did.....and we met at Chili's midway between our homes. A month of middle ground meetings and I finally quit dragging my feet and took the leap to spend a weekend at one of our homes.
That was end of January. Now middle of May. This man is mine and he makes me a better person simply by being who he is and caring about me. I suppose it's the comfort that I am loved and accepted and the one he wants to spend his life with that makes me a better me, more me, happy, free and content to be who I am. Dating at this age was very different in that we talked reasonably, future, what can you put up with, here's my issues and what are yours? Like my brother Steve said....."What???? Not rainbows and unicorns? You did it right like we all should have the first time?"
So my life is going to make some big changes, our lives are. We are going to combine our lives and make a home together and pursue forever.
I'm looking forward to filling up my picture frame....love that man. He does bring me peace and I sleep much better when he is with me. MINE.

joy
joy, PURE joy
elusive ... why
why so hard to let go and experience
why restrain
WHY?
don't we want joy?
PURE joy?
... or is it too much ...
concentrated, intense
painful
ironic - joy is painful
TRUTH?
more than we care to admit
we go through life diluted
restrained
... sad ...
experience - feel - it all
PURE joy, elusive
NO MORE, MINE. TAKE THE RISK!

Experience it all.....
Kim said something to me in our conversation the other day that has had me thinking. We were talking about emotion and how people hold back in relationships sometimes, to lessen the hurt if it doesn't work. Well she related a story where a man was like this his whole marriage, always held back because he wanted to lessen the hurt if something happened. Guess what? Something did happen, his wife died and it DID NOT lessen the hurt. It was as intense as if he had lived with abundant joy, love and despair, as if he had let himself feel it all.
Think about it. I know I do it....hold back, wait. WHY????? I've decided not to be afraid of emotion, I want to experience it, all of it. We never know when our last day will be or the last day of our loved one. Make the most of every moment, live it and feel it. No longer afraid of experiencing emotion. I'm going for the gusto.

Tatata
Keep It Simple Stupid. I've always subscribed to that. About 20 years ago I started consciously reading about simplicity and sustainability. I've always had this urge in me, keep things simple, back to the basics, it's not rocket science....life just doesn't have to be crazy wild and complicated. Talk. Be honest. Communicate. Listen. Forgive. Love. Simple to me.
But....I've lived the complicated life regardless, trying annually to renew my resolutions aiming toward simplicity and genuineness. I think I'm getting there. I feel like I've found the pivotal point.
Well.....first, I did find someone that shares a lot of these ideas and thoughts and beliefs withe me and encourages the positive thinking and has made me think of things in a new way....be more open. Big help and doesn't hurt that I'm falling for him either. Hard. Makes me listen even more.
Things I am discovering mean a lot to me are along the line of zen, Buddah, Eastern wisdom and medicine. Natural healing. Simplicity. Sustainability. Natural materials. Food that "knows where it comes from." I feel like I've found a gold mine to research. Some of my favorite things or things I desire lately are:
...Kombucha, particularly Buddha's Brew Pineapple SuperGreens
...Daily time in the sun to think/meditate - this was a gift from the man mentioned above...his practice that really hit my core.
...Eckhardt Tolle's A NEW EARTH. Also have THE POWER OF NOW that I'm aching to read. About being in the NOW. Letting go of the ego.
...PEACE IS EVERY STEP by Thich Nhat Hanh - another phenomenal book.
...zenhabits.org. Outstanding blog, I can't even do it justice praising it. It captures just what I'm after and want in life. Peace. Simplicity. Happiness.
...desires: to meditate, learn yoga, create a life/home of happiness. Last night Stacy and I were talking and I mentioned that I've wanted to create a life with someone, build something together. He put it simply, almost painfully simply and I ache for it too. He said he wants to be part of a HAPPY TEAM. To be on that path, on that team with him....my desire.
These are just a few of the things that describe the things that bring me peace, happiness. I am learning to live in the NOW. NOW. Not the past, you can't change it. Not the future, for if you daydream of the future, you are missing living NOW. And you can only live now. I'm getting it, Eckhardt Tolle is driving that home.
I want to do more research on meditation, Buddha, homeopathy, Chinese medicine. I want to read the Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu. Lots of learning left in life. Lots of happiness, lots of peace.
Buddha called it tatata - the suchness of life, being one with reality. THAT is what I desire. Working on it.

Are you???
Are you content? With what you have? What life has dealt? I have been pondering this word for a while now. I'm determined to be content. I'm content in a number of things, but am still in shake em up mode in a lot of areas of my life. I have to admit, my relationship status was one that left me very unhappy, took me up and down constantly. I am not good alone. I'm worse with the wrong person. Searching for someone? Well, I don't NEED or have to have someone, it is simply the icing on the cake and I'm a much better me with the RIGHT someone. I found my icing. Waiting for him to make sure I'm his icing and then I'll cut loose and really hit him with my love. But I'm content with this part of my life finally. Sounds like not enough, doesn't it? Like it's boring or something....but it's not. I'm blissfully happy. I feel like I'm constantly in a state of "peaceful happiness" as it says above.
I used to watch relationships and when I identified those that seemed to have what I wanted, I really zeroed in. The one that stood for a long time as my measure? Stacee and Donnie Caseltine. Both incredibly happy and content. Exuberant. Wait, is exuberant beyond content? But still content, not wishing for change. Well....anyway, found me my icing, and I gotta say, it is very yummy....hehe.

This little trick changes everything.
Let’s take a look at my life before contentedness:
I was addicted to junk food and fast food, and overweight and unhealthy. I bought too many things on impulse, owned too much clutter, and was deeply in debt and struggling to make it to the next payday. I was unhappy with who I was, wanted desperately to change, tried a thousand different programs and books. I was always worried I was missing out on exciting things, and wanted so much to be out doing the fun things everyone else was doing. I was always changing the way I did things, because it seemed everyone else had a better system or tools. I strove to meet goals, because they would get me to a better life.
And as I learned to be content, here was what changed:
I learned to be happy with healthier food, with less food, and my health improved and waistline shrunk. I relied on a good book, spending time with people I loved, going for a nice run … and my debt began to be reduced as I learned I didn’t need to spend money to enjoy myself. I learned to be happier with who I was, and what I was doing, and so no longer needed self-improvement books and programs, no longer needed to try all kinds of new systems and tools. I became happy with myself, with those around me, and with what I had — and so didn’t need to strive to change everything. Letting go of goals helped me to simplify things so I had less to worry about, less to do.
That’s just the start. There is no way to account for the tremendous change that happens when you learn to accept who you are, when you tell yourself you are perfect just as you are, when you love yourself and everything about yourself. You stop criticizing yourself, you are happier, you are a better person to be around, and you can now help others and work without the insecurities you had before.
This is not a magical state, and doesn’t require any new tools or books. It’s simple, and I’ll share what has worked for me.
I’ve been in situations where you might think things were bad, and sometimes I was very unhappy, and other times I was happy. The difference wasn’t in the external circumstances, but in my mindset — I learned to appreciate what I had, instead of focusing on the things I didn’t have or didn’t like. I was grateful for my health, for the people in my life, for having food and being alive.
If you can learn to develop the right mindset, you can be happy now, without changing anything else. You don’t need to wait until you’ve changed everything and made your life perfect before you’re happy — you have everything you need to be happy right now.
The mindset of waiting for happiness is a never-ending cycle. You get a better job (yay!) and then immediately start thinking about what your next promotion will be. You get a nicer house and immediately start looking at how nice your neighbors’ houses are, or the faults in the house you have. You try to change your spouse or kids, and if that works (good luck), you’ll find other things about them that need to be changed. It keeps going, until you die.
Instead, learn that you can be content now, without any external changes. Here’s how to start:

The Little Guide to Contentedness
‘He who is contented is rich.’ ~Lao Tzu
Post written by Leo Babauta.
There has been little in my life that has made as much an impact as learning to be content — with my life, where I am, what I’m doing, what I have, who I’m with, who I am.This little trick changes everything.

Learning to Be Content
If you are in a bad place in your life, and are unhappy with everything about it (job, relationship, yourself, house, habits, etc.), it can be a miserable thing. But here’s something interesting: it can also be a happy thing.I’ve been in situations where you might think things were bad, and sometimes I was very unhappy, and other times I was happy.
- Take a moment to be grateful for something. What in your life is amazing? Even if everything seems to suck, there must be one good thing. It might simply be that you have beauty somewhere nearby, or that you are alive, or that your kids are healthy. Find something, and give thanks for that.
- Catch yourself thinking, “This sucks.” It’s amazing how often people think this thought. “This sucks!” “My co-worker is the worst — he sucks!” “My wife doesn’t understand me — this suuucks!” It might be in different words, but if you catch yourself thinking something like that, pause. Reverse the thinking. Find a way to be thankful for the situation. “My wife is a caring and sweet person — maybe I should give her a hug.” “My co-worker might be annoying sometimes, but he has a good heart, and maybe I should get to know him better.” “My room might be messy but at least I have a roof over my head.”
- Find the little things that can give you simple joys. What do you need to be happy? I love simple things, like taking a walk, spending time with a loved one, reading a book, eating some berries, drinking tea. These cost very little, and require very little, and can make me very happy. Find the simple things that give you similar happiness, and focus on those rather than what you don’t have.
- Find the things about yourself that you’re happy with. We tend to criticize ourselves easily, but what if we turned it around and asked, “What do I do right? What am I good at? What is loveable about me?” Make a list. Start to focus on these things rather than what you’re unhappy with.
- Do the same with others in your life. Instead of criticizing them, ask yourself, “What is good about this person? What do I love about them?” Make a list, and focus on these things above all else.
- Assume that you, others, and life are perfect. You are great, and don’t need improvement. You aren’t a piece of clay that must be shaped and molded into something better — you are already perfect. Other people are also just as perfect, and don’t need improvement. You just need to appreciate them for who they are. The moment we are living in is not a stepping stone to something better — it is exactly wonderful, and we have already arrived at the perfect moment.
The Contented Life
It might be useful to look at what life would be like if you learned to be content:- Self image. We compare ourselves with the images in our head of perfection — movie stars, models in magazines, other people who seem to have it all together — and we can never measure up to those perfect images. But those images are not real. They are an imagined ideal. Even the beautiful people have bad hair days and feel flabby, and if you take away their photoshopped and heavily-made-up façade, you see that they are every bit as human as you are. Even the people who seem successful, living exciting lives — they have the same self-doubts you have. So if they don’t live up to this ideal image, why should you? And even if they did (which they don’t), why would you need to? When we let go of this image of perfection, we realize that we are already exactly who we should be. And then, all our need for self-improvement, and all the activity and effort and pain that implies, fades away. We are happy with ourselves, and nothing else is needed.
- Relationships. If you are content with yourself, you are more likely to be a good friend, partner, parent. You are more likely to be happy and friendly and loving, more likely to be as accepting of others as you are of yourself. Relationships improve, especially when others learn to be content with themselves, from your example.
- Health. Much of our culture’s unhealthiness comes from unhappiness — eating junk food to give ourselves comfort and relieve stress, not exercising because we think we can’t (because we have a bad self-image), being glued online because we think we might miss something if we turn off the computer or iPhone. When you realize that you aren’t missing anything, and you don’t need junk food to be happy, and you are good enough to exercise, you can slowly return to health.
- Possessions. The overload of possessions in our lives comes from unhappiness — we buy things because we think they’ll give us comfort, coolness, happiness, security, an exciting life. When we become content with ourselves and our lives, we realize none of that is necessary, and we can start getting rid of these extraneous crutches.
- Busy-ness. Much of our busy-ness comes from fear that we should be doing more, that we might be missing out, that we aren’t enough already. But we are enough, and we don’t need more, and we aren’t missing out. So we can let go of a lot of unnecessary activity, and just focus on doing what we love, and give ourselves the space to enjoy a contented life.
‘Be content with what you have; rejoice in the way things are. When you realize there is nothing lacking, the whole world belongs to you.’ ~Lao Tzu

Time for yourself....
"Someone" introduced me to the concept of sitting in the sun for 30 minutes and basically meditating. Can't say I've got my head wrapped around meditation but I like the idea. And honestly I shouldn't say sun, just outdoors, even if a cloudy day....fresh air, exposed, free to let the mind wander or be still.Today I sat outside....had been working hard so had on capri length yoga pants and a workout fitted tank. Was a bit chilly so brought a quilt with me and sat in the sun....what a pick me up! So great to have been working hard and take a break so basic, so simple. Too bad we forget these things. I want to live with purpose, not forget the simple things in life and to appreciate them. Slow down. That is counter to what society has ingrained into us lately. The buzz word seems to be multitasking yet think about it.
That is a tech definition but c'mon! Execute on several distributed processors....well first off we have ONE brain, one person.SIMULTANEOUSLY! So, chat on the phone with your bff....unload the dishwasher and make a grocery list. Is your bff getting the best of you? Are you really listening? Do you hear the tears or hesitation in her voice? Slow down. When was the last time you really lost yourself in a conversation. A REAL conversation. Deep. Significant. Put yourself there, drop the multitasking and be IN the moment. Those are the things that count. So what if you die and the dishwasher wasn't loaded? Get that conversation in. Make those memories. Do what matters, really matters and do it with meaning and your entire being engaged. Don't short change the people in your life.
So....yes. I sat in the sun. Didn't even read today. Often I do, but today, I enjoyed the slight breeze that made it a bit too cool to be without my quilt, and the warmth of the sun hitting my arms and legs. The sounds of outside and the neighborhood, the sound of my daughter inside. My sweet Cowboy who had to wander up next to me on the little perch of a patio and stand on the edge just so he could be right next to me. His soft fur and the way he pushed his nose into my face to plant a sloppy wet one on me. If I was involved in other things at the same time, I'd have missed all the joy in that 30 minutes. Simple....meditation, one step at a time. Once a day to start. Appreciating.
Sending a huge thank you to my special someone that brought that into my life. One thing he said after the first time we sat in the sun together? "I like that we don't have to talk and it's ok to be quiet." Warmth spread in my heart. It is, thank you for giving me that.

Two favorite books....and a blog
Over the years I've been pursuing the simple life, sustainability, living frugally...one concept? No it's a mix, honestly. I pick and choose what I like and what hits me from many different sources, putting into play my favorites.
About 15 years ago I ran across Tracey McBride's books, the first being Frugal Luxuries. People often equate frugal with cheap, however I see it completely different. To live frugally means that I am saving money in ways that I deem acceptable so that I have funds to spend on things that I enjoy. It does NOT mean that I will buy the cheapest things out there and will sit at home with the lights off to save money. It's simply a matter of choosing priorities as to where your money goes that gives you the most enjoyment and satisfaction.
I love the challenge of bargain hunting. I think it was Walmart (of all places...not a favorite of mine) that had a commercial a few years back around Christmas where the woman in it was a "bargain looker-outer" and she did the hovering circular motion with her hands. I really connected with that....I am an incredible bargain looker-outer. I love the thrill of finding the best deal for things, of wandering through the local consignment store and finding that amazing Chicos Jean Jacket embellished with all kinds of jewels for $10 that looks brand new (true recent story). These kind of things leave me the funds to spend on travel or my home or a tree I've wanted in my yard, or an incredible dinner out at Tokyo Steakhouse with my kids. Things others might consider frivolous, but that I get great enjoyment out of.
And then there are frugal luxuries. Roses cut from my backyard in an old pickle jar on my side-table. A ten-cent garage sale find of an old handkerchief with little pansies all over it that I keep in my purse. These things cost basically nothing, but are little luxuries that I completely cherish and put a smile on my face. Let Tracey teach you about Frugal Luxuries on her website or through one of her books. Not sure I'll loan one of mine out, they are too valuable to me, but I'll help you find one.
Simple Living
It means getting rid of many of the things you do so you can
spend time with people you love and do the things you love. It means
getting rid of the clutter so you are left with only that which gives
you value.

ooohhhmmmm......
This is a repost of a November 2010 post that means a lot to me at this time. Went back to read the article I refer to in it and the link didn't work so wanted to fix it.....couldn't edit it that far back so what a great reason for a repost!
I
need to take up meditation or something and gain some zen moments in my
life. Peace, simplicity, basics. I get so overwhelmed running around,
trying to be everything to everybody and still falling way short and
being on the receiving end of undeserved blame, anger, ugliness. The
nasty words constantly take a toll and I just can't take it. THUS....I
hide in my room. Read, play online games, talk to friends on voice
chat. BLOG.
Stephen Hopson
says "do what makes YOU happy FIRST and then if people want to adjust,
accept or reject you, that’s their business. Our job is to take
care of ourselves. Yes, you have to balance it out and compromise
along the way, of course. But if you consistently go out of your way
to make others happy, allowing your wants and desires to fall by the
wayside, guess what will happen?
You’ll
experience a range of emotions from depression, sadness, anger,
resentment or bitterness. And the funny thing is you’re the one that
put yourself in that position! It has nothing to do with the other
person. All the other person did was to say what he/she wants and you
went along with it."
OMG
do I relate. Click on the link in his name and read more. I need to
dig my heels in and live by this. I've let the opinion and hurt of
others sway me in this many times and no more. I can not be what I need
to be if I don't take care of me. I'll have nothing to give. Help me
stick to this.
Things that make me happy...
Simplicity. Nature, plants, gardening. Being in the moment. Someone special to share with who understands these things about me. Ultimately yes that someone special I would love to be a man. BUT....also need friends, family, my babies. Hope people will join me in this journey and be open and authentic. Non-judgemental. Make new friendships and plain old enjoy life in it's simplicity and abundance. Realizing that everything in your life is affected by your choice and YES YOU HAVE A CHOICE. I am choosing the road to happiness and creating memories, join me? I want to expand this blog, create a resource list, inspiration, whatever it may be.
Yes it's going to hurt. We keep pieces of ourselves locked away but I'm going for authentic, excellent conversations here. Not what people expect, no parroting, just heartfelt, caring convos. This will help me identify the "real" people that I want to be a part of my life. With this transparency and honesty, age is no issue. Join me. Learn to care and love with me. Learn to choose what is best for you.
Disclaimer....I'm no expert on anything. I stumble lots, my balance is off kilter. Say a word,I'll sing you a song containing that word. On key? Not a clue. Just with pure joy. If you are not afraid to be you, come help. Not afraid to ask for that. Life is our adventure and is what we make it.

Wild Abandon....
The words Wild Abandon ran through my head the other day, not sure why, but I grabbed my iPhone and recorded them in my little notepad. They struck a chord deep inside.
The definitions that speak to me are wild: not subject to restraint, indicative of strong passion. Abandon: complete lack of inhibition or restraint. To live with wild abandon, to live passionately, letting nothing inhibit you or restrain you. Restrain your feelings, emotions, ability to feel and react. To do things with passion and without self consciousness or inhibition.
These words are so strong to me, mean so much. I want this in my life. I've lived with so much restraint. Done so much because it is "what you do" or what is expected of me. NO MORE. When I got divorced my mind cleared and I decided NO REGRETS was how I was going to live. I believe that "living with wild abandon" is more precisely how I want to live.
Now.....to find someone to share that with if possible.....

Recording the changes......
This picture appeared in The Independent, the local LH newspaper recently.....shows (a bit) my weight loss but of course I'm wearing a HUGE sweatshirt. I browsed through past pictures and just made myself sick seeing what I looked like before.....overweight, matronly. Holy crap. That was so not me, no wonder I never felt like myself.
I've grabbed the reins back and no more being everything else for everyone. Me first. I need to work out, walk, run, eat right. I'm doing it. Feeling much better about myself. Going to look for better pics to post the change......I should post the before pictures but need to get the guts up. Oh heck....will keep me where I am right?
Carpe diem!

Thankful for.....TODAY
On Facebook I have noticed a trend of people counting down toward Thanksgiving and listing why they are thankful. What a great idea, I often don't do that enough. So....even though it is November 5th and I tend to have a problem with blogging in any sort of regular manner, I decided to attempt a thankfulness log.
I am thankful for today. TODAY, not tomorrow and all that it holds including the fact that the day will be incredibly long. Not yesterday. TODAY. Learning to appreciate living in the moment, in the now. Not anticipating what is to come and missing the now. Not lamenting over the past and missing the now. NOW. This moment. Today.
.....note to self, it's not enough to proclaim this, you must actually practice it.......

Ch..ch...ch....changes.....
Tried on and off for years to lose weight, it truly does take a mindset, something clicking on in your brain to do it. Well, and a pretty little pill called phentermine to jump start it.
I'd gotten to my heaviest ever, dealing with being suddenly single, no health insurance, difficult to get due to borderline diabetes. Unknown to me I had high blood pressure and high cholesterol as well. Finally got insurance and doc wanted me working on weight. Two years.....lose....excuses....finally he said enough, do it NOW and we are starting you with an appetite suppressant to get you moving. That was start of March 2012.
One month and 20 pounds lighter, the motivation was great. Still on lowest dose, I continued to lose. It is now a full six months later, he still has me on a higher dosage to get the rest off....he gave me a goal of 10 more pounds to put me within my ideal weight range, a range I never thought I'd see again. I"m three pounds into it, seven to go.
Along the way.....shock, excitement, buy new clothes. OOPS! Everything I bought is too big one month later. Not that I lost a lot during that month, five pounds, but it was like everything settled in and my body really started showing the change. So....those size 10's that I just bought were too big.....out shopping again. SHOCK! Size 8 and 6 fit....depends on brand, cut. Shirts? Now having to buy a medium, the larges I just bought are hanging loose.
Today I'm feeling great, feel like ME again. I have energy, I walk and feel like I'm trucking along at a fast clip, not gasping for air at all....probably could push it up even faster. I no longer an on blood pressure medicine as my bp has maintained a respectable 118/80 for quite a while. Cholesterol is inline with the exception of HDL's being a bit under the range they should be, the solution? Increase exercise. Weight lost to date? 43 pounds. Size's lost? Well, I started at a 14 or an XL woman's shirt, L in men's t-shirt. Today I wear a 6/8 in pants, a medium in women's shirts and a medium in men's t-shirts. My closet? Rather empty and it will stay that way for a while as I continue losing the last few pounds and evaluate if I'm going to continue losing a bit more or what the status is.
The biggest pay off? Well besides the constant compliments on looking great, SHOPPING IS FUN!!!! I've hated shopping for years because things didn't fit, I looked fat, whatever it may be. But now the biggest challenge I face when shopping is of all the items I try on, of which 90 percent fit, what do I choose? I've never had so many choices of things that fit. It's nice being able to be picky.
I need to get whole body pics .... but I've been told the face shots are very evident that there was weight loss......yeeehawww!

The most important things in life.....are people.
The longer I live, the more I embrace the thought that people are all that matter. It's so easy to get caught up in the material world, however is that what truly makes you happy? From personal experience, I've witnessed people who gain those possessions they want, only to take a breath and say "now I want an XYZ." They are never satisfied, always needing to move on to the next possession, certain that IT will bring them happiness. What void is it they are trying to fill?
I have no clue, but I do know that I'm not going to lay on my deathbed and whisper that I wish I'd spent more time at work, or that I had owned a Hummer or the like. Its the people that make my life, that bring happiness and laughter, that I want more time with. My family, friends, online friends.
What I find intriguing is this entire cyberworld that has opened up. 16 years ago when I first touched a computer, I was so fearful. Today, I am fearful when my computer is not working! To be able to make one post on Facebook and know my four siblings are all updated is comforting. To read their activities so easily has made a difference. Phone wasn't cutting it, computers do.
The online friends I've made (and yes I'm very very cautious, thinking everyone I meet online is an online predator) have become precious to me. Believe it or not, I have actually been to one girlfriends house that I met online. You see, we met in the virtual world of SecondLife, became friends, slowly shared real life details, find we live near each other and have talked in voice and on the phone. So.....off I go and meet her and her family. Yes, Skylar/Wendy - YOU! My sweet Texas friend that I'd never have in my life if I wasn't open to the new methods of finding relationships that are available today.
Studies/reports vary widely, but it is generally agreed that the number of relationships (friendships and romantic) starting online has increased greatly in recent years. One article I read stated that as many as 1 out of 3 relationships (this is relationships....friends, acquaintances, romantic) start online. The dating world says that approximately 30 percent of the population has tried or knows someone who has tried internet dating sites. What a change, and if we haven't changed, I guess it's time to wrap our minds around that idea. It's here and happening.
Yes, I have many friends I've met online, male and female, yes we talk in voice wearing our headsets and yes, I suppose we are nerds if that's what you want to call us. Will I end up in a real life romantic relationship that is a result of one of those online friendships? Perhaps. I'm definitely not opposed to it. I love technology and the doors it has opened to us, doors I never thought existed. Bring it on!
